Taking care of our health is crucial, whether it is physically, mentally, and emotionally. Just like the saying it is better to prevent than to cure. Some of the ways to take better care of ourselves are through self-care. What is self-care and why is it important? Self-care is when we are doing any activities physically, mentally, and physically that are good for us. Even students from “diploma kejururawatan” need to take care of themselves.
If you are wondering why do we need to have self-care? Well, in a society where we are constantly working or studying to be the better version of ourselves and competing with other people. It can be exhausting and it can lead us to have burnout, and most of the times people do not realize that they are having a burnout. Burnout is when someone has little to no motivation to do their daily task or something that they are passionate about.
Besides that, having self-care will encourage us to have a better relationship with ourselves. Having a healthy and loving relationship with ourselves physically, mentally, and emotionally will reflect it in ourselves when we are having relationships with other people. Being the best version of ourselves will also make other people feel comfortable being around us.
Taking care and being there for other people is important, however, being there for ourselves is also important. Just because we are prioritizing ourselves doesn’t mean we are selfish or ignorant. It is just we are simply being considerate of ourselves and we are fulfilling the needs of our bodies, minds, and emotions.
Other than that, self-care includes taking care of ourselves physically, mentally, and emotionally. Having a healthy body and mind will decrease the chances of us from getting any serious illness like high blood pressure or heart attack.
These are some of the reasons why self-care is important to us, and here are some of the activities that we can do that are considered as self-care.
Exercising
Spending at least 30 minutes every 3 days each week can help us to achieve a healthy body and mind. We don’t need to do any heavy exercising, all we need to do is just some light movement like walking around the neighborhood, play with our children or maybe do some light stretches or yoga. Sweating ourselves will release all of the toxins from our body and exercise can help to increase our serotonin which is the hormone that is responsible for our mood balance.
Meditation
Meditating has been proven to help clear out our minds and soul. Sometimes we have a lot in our minds and it can lead to overthinking and sleepless nights. With meditating every morning for at least 10 minutes, it can help us to reset our mind and clear our soul.
Reading
Feeding our brain is one of the ways to take care of ourselves. We can read any books that we want for at least 20 minutes a day. Not only, it is good for our brain but it will increase our creativity. Reading is one of those activities that we can do and stay relax.
